Description
This rare iron paperweight, shaped like a boar, was designed by the renowned Japanese avant-garde artist Taro Okamoto and produced in the 1980s as a commemorative item for Hotel Sakaya, a historic inn at Yoshina Onsen in Izu Amagi, with a tradition spanning over 500 years.
The boar motif carries cultural significance in Japan, symbolizing courage, protection, and vitality. Okamoto’s distinctive style brings a playful yet dynamic touch, turning this simple object into a piece of modern art.
The cast iron has aged with natural patina, adding character and authenticity. While minor scratches and marks are present, the condition remains very good overall. An intriguing collectible for admirers of Japanese modern art, Taro Okamoto’s work, or unique vintage souvenirs.
